The Department of Physical Education was established in the year 1948 in the old campus.
Later it was shifted to new campus. The present area has been chosen for establishing the Gym, Pavilion, play fields and the Department in and around 11 acres. The land is earmarked for different new play fields like Indoor Stadium, Synthetic Tennis courts, Building for Indoor games and Yoga & Meditation, Swimming pool and Turf Wicket for Cricket matches.

 

Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Anantapur has been formed as separate University
under the Andhra Pradesh State Government Act No 30 of 2008, dated 21st September 2008. As per the norm of AIU JNTUA,Anantapur has constituted Sports Council in the month of February 2010 where the Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor is the Chairman,Registrar is the Treasurer, Physical Education personnel is the Secretary and respected Directors and Principals of Constituent colleges are the members. In the month of June 2010 the University has received permanent affiliation membership in Association of Indian Universities.

 

AIM OF THE DEPARTMENT

 

The Department of Physical Education, JNTUA Anantapur is promoting Physical Education and sports on par with regular academics. The University is well recognized the value of sports and physical activities as a means of developing perosnality promoting social harmony and discipline. The department provides ample opportunity to the students to utilize their leisure time with physical activities to reduce their stress in their day to day education system. Physical fitness is not only the most important keys to healthy body it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual abilities. We encourage mass participation towards physical activities which enhance the overall cognitive abilities of the students. The Department of Physical Education is monitoring the sports activities of the College as well as the University. Our University desires to prepare all the Sports events to All India Inter University Tournaments from this academic year onwards.
